Also, referred by other synonyms like nose surgery, nose re-shaping, or a nose job, rhinoplasty is a very popular cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance and proportion of the nose according to the other facial features.
On the other side, it also offers lots of benefits by correcting impaired breathing caused by structure abnormalities of the nose. Nose plastic surgeon in New York City advises to undergo nose job is they fall in some or all of the following nasal conditions:
  • Nose look too big as compared to the rest of the face

  • An asymmetrical nose created due to accidental or sports injuries
  • Birth defects

Despite the commonality of nasal procedure, there are number of misconceptions floating around rhinoplasty surgery that results as uninformed people pass on misinformation. Let's understand the facts straight.
Myth#1: Nasal plastic surgery is performed by using plastic materials: Some people who are not aware about nose job believe that cosmetic surgeons use plastic materials to make the desired change in the overall appearance of the nose. But this is not at all true. Actually, the word “plastic” comes from a Greek word which means “to mold” something. That means, plastic surgeons insert necessary either biological or synthetic (such as silicon but not made of plastic we are familiar with) materials, especially, in the nasal bridge to make it taller or thinner.
Myth#2: Any surgeon can perform nose job: This is actually true. Any surgeon who has license can legally operate your nose. But, it will not be a wise advise to get rhinoplasty performed by a surgeon outside of their specialization. As we all know, nose is a complex structure containing cartilage, bone, and other features. Therefore, don't go in wrong hands that may take you to life threatening results.
Myth#3: Rhinoplasty is painful: Undoubtedly, every surgery, in one way or other, associated with pain. In case of nasal procedure, it is performed under general or local anesthesia so to keep patient away from the pain during the entire job.
Myth#4: Rhinoplasty surgery leaves no scars: Unfortunately, this misconception if not true. Yes!, sutures are placed so well that they remain out of sight after recovery.
